The Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.) is celebrating 31 years of Advocacy and Action in our communities and with our members. A.B.L.E. has supported our community by sponsoring a scholarship that empowers candidates to pursue post-secondary education in law enforcement, corrections, law, criminal justice, and criminology through an A.B.L.E. Scholarship & Awards Gala.
The theme for the A.B.L.E. Scholarship & Awards Gala 2023, "Our People, Our Purpose,”. It represents unity, empowerment, and the courage to challenge injustices. We celebrate resilience, advocate for education, and emphasize the importance of inclusivity and ally collaboration. We focus on achieving equitable solutions, combating racism, and creating just and inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive.
The Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.) created its Scholarship Program to commemorate the contributions of Rose Fortune (1774-1864) and Peter C. Butler III (1859- 1943) – the first Black police officers in Canada. By awarding scholarships, A.B.L.E. assists Black and visible minority students in achieving their educational and career aspirations.
A.B.L.E. is committed to ensuring that the justice sector is reflective of all Canadians. We also want to ensure that our youth have opportunities to serve, protect, and correct. In the spirit of opportunity, A.B.L.E. contributes funds to support recipients’ post-secondary education in the following areas of study:
- Public Safety
- Criminal Justice
- Police Foundation Studies
- Community Services
