We are currently recruiting for a Manager, Training & Standards to work with Security Operations, Department of Community Safety for this exciting opportunity. 

Are you a Managerial professional within the field of Security Services? Do you have experience training, supervising, coaching, mentoring and motivating staff in a unionized environment? Do you have experience developing and implementing multiple policies, procedures and standards? Are you a superior communicator with excellent presentation skills? Do you possess experience planning, developing, coordinating and delivering training programs including use of force, defensive tactics and crisis de-escalation? If so, keep reading!

In this role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and facilitation of training to all Security Services staff at York University for York’s campuses and for ensuring training standards and curricula are aligned with other areas in the Community Safety Department. In consultation with the Director, the Manager is responsible for the development and maintenance of York University Security Services (YSS) training packages, standards and procedures that provide for high quality customer-focused services to diverse community of students, staff and faculty according to the University’s mission and the mission of the Community Safety Department. The Manager will also work with other staff and departments develop synergistic training with a focus on community safety. This is in support of a safe campus environment for the over 50,000 students and staff, faculty and visitors that comprise the York University Community.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:

A Law and Security Administration degree or diploma from a recognized University or Community College or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificate in adult learning or equivalent in experience developing and delivering training programs. Instructor level certification in use of force, defensive tactics and crisis de-escalation. Additional education or qualifications in community policing, crime prevention, or diversity/human rights would be an asset. In addition, the successful incumbent will possess a minimum seven years security or policing related experience. Three years minimum experience developing and implementing multiple policies, procedures and standards. Three years minimum experience planning, developing, coordinating and delivering training programs including use of force, defensive tactics and crisis de-escalation training. Experience in a University environment preferred. Three years minimum experience managing in a unionized environment required. Police experience preferred.
