Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario and our goal is to create a transportation network that enhances the prosperity, sustainability and quality of life for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. We lead planning in the region with a Regional Transportation Plan that guides the work and investments of the organization. This includes building light transit, bus rapid transit and Regional Express Rail, as well as operating GO Transit, UP Express and PRESTO.
 
Our Compliance Services Office is seeking several Part-Time Revenue Protection Officers (designated Provincial Offences Officers) to maintain the integrity of the fare system and to provide customer service and assist with safety.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs consistent and non-discriminatory enforcement of the GO Transit bylaw by inspecting proof of fare payment, parking enforcement/control and other activities related to revenue and asset protection.  Issues tickets for fare evasion, offence notices, parking infraction notices and summonses to individuals for non-compliance.
  • Interacts with customers and the general public by offering fare and system information, responding to questions and providing education.  Receives direct customer feedback and resolves frontline concerns/complaints, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Responds to passenger assist alarms on moving equipment, investigates causes and provides assistance to patrons, employees, train crew and emergency services.
  • Provides first level emergency response assistance. Administers first aid and/or assistance to passengers, employees, train crew and emergency services.
  • Assists in the removal of on-train debris, handles lost and found items, crowd control, searching Metrolinx/GO Transit premises, equipment or passenger vehicles, protecting site or evidence while waiting for Transit Safety Officer(s).
  • Prepares statistical records for management information system.
  • Maintains a daily memo book, to log incidents, duties performed and information of a confidential nature in chronological order, which may be required for judicial proceedings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     
Location/Shift: Various locations. These positions will involve working variable shifts/hours of work (which may include days, afternoon, evenings, weekends, elongated and split shifts, and holidays) with varying days off
 
Qualifications
  • Completion of a community college diploma or certificate in the field of Law and Security, Police Foundations  or customer relations, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related law and security work, including sound knowledge of security investigation and loss prevention/control principles and, techniques would be an asset.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience directly involving law and security enforcement and customer service delivery in a customer-oriented environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Metrolinx By-Laws and Provincial Offences Act.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to effectively respond to incidents/occurrences, answer questions, and prepare detailed logs and occurrence/incident reports, present evidence in court. 
  • Must be able to pass an Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) security clearance for the purposes of obtaining Provincial Offences Officer status.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing and the ability to maintain the same. 
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid and C.P.R. certifications.
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy. (Initial training period may involve working up to 40 hours per week.)
  • Strong customer service and public relations skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in the field on a regular basis in a variety of circumstances/situations.
Note: This position involves walking, standing, climbing of stairs and regular operation of departmental vehicles. Incumbent may be exposed to confrontational situations.
