Kevin R. Junor, MMM, CD
Kevin Junor is a retired Deputy Superintendent from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS). He held various deputy positions including: the Deputy of Operations for the Toronto (Don) Jail; Manager of Institutional Services and Emergency Response Training and Use of Force Investigations. He joined the Ministry of Transportation as a laboratory technician, beginning a 34-year career with the Ontario Public Service (OPS). Before joining the MCSCS, Kevin held various positions in the OPS including team leader, change management consultant, and senior business advisor.
Members of A.B.L.E. have provided mentorship and guidance to Kevin along the way. Individuals including Jay Hope and David Mitchell have influenced his decisions to be a deputy superintendent within MCSCS.
Along with his career in OPS, Kevin has a 33 years distinguished career with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Reserves. He joined the Toronto Scottish Regiment (QEQMO) in 1980. He was appointed the first Black Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) for the Regiment in 1998. He has participated as a speaker at military training colleges in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Jamaica. He is engaged in the development of leaders. He is also the International Liaison Officer for the JCCF.
Kevin was deployed on a CAF mission to West Africa in 2007 where he provided leadership and military tactical advice to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). He developed the first RSM leadership program that was implemented in the history of the RSLAF.
He returned to the Reserves after retiring from the OPS and is currently deployed on Operation Impact in Jordan. Kevin is the CAF representative on a team with other nations and Non Governmental Organizations responsible to deliver projects that will enhance the capacity of individuals and increase security in the region.
Kevin is an active member of his community. He has chaired various boards of directors. He is a member of North Peel Community church in Caledon. He is also a motivational speaker and a mentor to many in the community.
He has received various awards including the Order of Military Merit, the Harry Jerome Professional Excellence award, the Seneca Distinguished Alumni award and the OPS Amethyst.
Kevin is thankful to the Lord for his mercies and blessings throughout his career. His advice to everyone is: be true to yourself; don’t let anyone tell you who you are or limit you because of how you look or where you came from; build a solid network and A.B.L.E is a great place to start. I continue to be a member because of the dedicated members and the organization’s commitment to being a strong voice representing the issues impacting the membership.
